Get your groove on!
Why playlists?!
I know, playlists might seem a bit random coming from a myofascial release therapist, but stick with me, you’ll soon be grooving every day!
First, a confession: I’m obsessed with music. I love discovering new tunes, and when I find a song that hits just right, I can’t stop playing it. As a kid, one of my favourite things was making playlists, recording songs from the charts on the radio and carefully writing out the names on cassette sleeves. Sharing these mixes with friends and boyfriends was a huge part of how I connected with others. Fast forward to now, and I still find immense joy in curating playlists from the random, eclectic tracks I’ve collected over the years, picked up from the radio, or Shazam-ed from TV shows.
So, I thought, why not share the love? Each playlist is a little peek into my musical world, songs that make me want to move. Plus, it gives me a way to justify the countless hours spent down music rabbit holes! These playlists are for you, too, to add some joy to your movement every day.
Now, here’s the science-y bit (and some anecdotal evidence):
One of the top things I recommend to my myofascial release clients is simple: move more every day. Actually, what I really suggest is dancing whenever you get the chance! Swing those arms, shake those hips, and maybe even throw in some gyrating. Why? Because our bodies—and especially our fascia—don’t love sitting still for long periods. We get stiff, creaky, and everything feels stuck together. But building in movement, especially through dancing, can counteract this.
My clients have told me that when they make dancing to music part of their daily routine, they feel better—both physically and mentally. And I can often feel the difference in their bodies during treatments.
There’s solid science behind this too: Dancing releases endorphins, giving you a natural mood boost. It lowers cortisol levels, making it a fantastic stress reliever. It boosts creativity and cognitive function, and it gets you away from screens (which is always a win!). Plus, letting loose to music can make you laugh, smile, and feel more connected to your body.
So, I’ve put together these playlists for you for 20 minutes of no holds barred movement. Let loose, have a laugh, and tune into what your body’s telling you today. Enjoy and let me know how you get on!
